The rotary screw design is a positive displacement, non-pulsating compressor which utilizes helical intermeshing rotors to compress gas. Screws are quite common in applications with pressures less than 300psig although higher pressure ratings are available. Units are offered in oil flooded and dry screw type depending on application duty and gas composition and are used in the oil and gas markets for low pressure gas gathering, wellhead boosting, vapor recovery, and turbine fuel gas applications as well as in refrigeration service such as those found in dew point control units (DPCU) in gas treatment plants.
